About Us
RFK Community Schools
RFK Community Schools is a 24-acre, Kinder through 12th grade campus comprised of six autonomous Pilot Schools located at the site of the former Ambassador Hotel. Students are offered a rigorous and personalized instructional program that embodies the social justice legacy of Senator Robert F. Kennedy.
Historic Design
Built in 1921, the 24-acre Ambassador Hotel served as a social hub for early Hollywood and a bourgeoning Los Angeles. A favorite of 20th century celebrities, artists, Presidents, and other dignitaries, the site was demolished in 2006 following a lengthy period of dormancy. To preserve the historic legacy of the site, elements of Myron Hunt’s famous hotel were incorporated in the new design, including:

-
The hotel’s legendary Cocoanut Grove nightclub, now a 565-seat theatre for the school and community.
-
Paul R. Williams' 1940’s era coffee shop has been refurbished as a teachers’ lounge and meeting space.
-
The intricate vaulted ceiling of the hotel’s Embassy Ballroom (the site of Robert F. Kennedy’s 1968 Primary victory speech and assassination) was reconstructed as the library for secondary students.
The secondary Library is dedicated to the memory of Paul Schrade, a lifelong activist and Union member who was part of RFK's campaign, which was instrumental in the struggle to acquire the property and to build Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools.
